Nonprofit Accepts Crypto at Fundraiser, Donations Matched by Vitalik Buterin

November 16, 2018: The Giving Block (TGB) client, The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA), accepted cryptocurrency donations at their annual gala (BTC, ETH, LTC, BCH, ETC) in NYC for the first time. In the audience were guests from ConsenSys, as well as other blockchain organizations and community members. In this first of its kind event, nonprofits, Fortune 500 companies and now the blockchain community came together for a night devoted to finding a cure for lupus.

In an exciting development, LFA announced that, when donated through WeTrust, ETH donations from now until November 27th are being matched by Vitalik Buterin.

The largest ETH donation of the night came from PeerStream at 16.8 ETH ($3,500). LFA now leads the match competition, distributed based on the number of individual donors.

Every donation of 0.1 ETH or higher counts in the match. You can donate HERE.

Events like these show how philanthropic the blockchain community can be during a time where the general public often only sees the negative headlines regarding cryptocurrency.

At The Giving Block, we are devoted to raising awareness for worthy causes while also spreading awareness about blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Our mission is to bring the benefits of blockchain technology to the nonprofit space. Beyond crypto donations, clients explore ways to increase transparency, reduce administrative costs and engage a new community.

We are building a world where every nonprofit accepts cryptocurrency donations, understands the basics of blockchain and leverages the technology to elevate their impact.
