COVID-19 Relief Efforts Raise Over $1,000,000 in Bitcoin + other Crypto
Over 50 companies came together to support #cryptoCOVID19
In the last two months, our #cryptoCOVID19 campaign has raised over $1,000,000 in cryptocurrency donations. We were amazed by the genorosity of the cryptocurrency community. We saw a mix of donations from individuals, companies and match pools. The 50 corporate partners in the image above that joined the #cryptoCOVID19 alliance played a key role in raising the money and spreading awareness. We couldn’t have reached this milestone without your help!
Quick Stats:
- 29 nonprofits participating
- Over $1,000,000 raised in cryptocurrency donations
- Bitcoin (BTC) was the most donated cryptocurrency, followed by Ether (ETH)
- A mix of major gifts from partners, individual donations and campaign matches
- For many nonprofits this was their first experience fundraising with cryptocurrencies

Initiative Highlights
Gitcoin Grants Round 5:
The Giving Block partnered with Gitcoin and Consensys on their Gitcoin Grants Round 5 campaign where donations were matched up to $100,000 USD thanks to generous support from Gitcoin and Vitalik Buterin. Participating organizations included: Children’s Heart Unit Fund (CHUF), The Water Project, International Medical Corps, Eve’s Place, mReleif, Us4Warriors, Team Rubicon, The Gathering Place, SOS Children’s Villages, No Kid Hungry and Save the Children.
Waves Exchange Prediction Market:
Cryptocurrency exchange Waves.Exchange launched a prediction market allowing users to make predictions on the coronavirus pandemic. Proceeds from this prediction market were donated to #cryptoCOVID19 nonprofits.
Charity Poker Tournaments:
Crypto vs COVID charity poker tournaments raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in cryptocurrency donations for charities. Featured players were influencers from the cryptocurrency space such as Charlie Lee, Ryan Selkis and Peter McCormack.
Bitcasino Donation Campaign:
Bitcasino generously matched and donated user loyalty points to #cryptoCOVID19 charities, resulting in $200,000 in charity crypto gifts.
Bitcoin Pizza Day:
Cryptocurrency exchange Gemini coordinated a Bitcoin Pizza Day fundraiser in support of No Kid Hungry and Slice Out Hunger, helping them fundraise crypto which was used to supply food to medical professionals serving those affected by coronavirus, and kids who could no longer get their meals at school.
Giving Tuesday Now:
The Giving Block, Save the Children and Giving Tuesday ran the first ever charity livestream concert from the official Giving Tuesday twitch channel. The event raised over $200,000 for #cryptoCOVID19 charities. Many of the charities even hung out in the chat with crypto donors!
New York Blockchain Week Gives:
Coindesk’s Consensus Distributed 2020 was the largest virtual cryptocurrency conference assembled to date. Nobly, they used their voice and their audience to help raise over $150,000 for the #cryptoCOVID19 charities responding to the coronavirus pandemic.
Messari Mainnet:
Messari also leveraged their major event to help raise critical crypto support for charities on the frontlines of the pandemic. They donated 50% of all event proceeds to a handful of nonprofits.
Nifty Gateway Charity Drop:
Nifty Gateway created a charity NFT drop in collaboration with The Giving Block and artist Thomas Michael Duffy featuring art depicting some of the biggest names in crypto fighting COVID-19. Some of these NFTs are still available here.
